Applying Ceramic Shield
Six months of beading in twenty minutes — if you prep it right and keep the towels honest.
40 minBeginner5 steps
Ceramic Shield is an SiO₂ spray sealant. It bonds to bare clear coat and leaves a slick, hard layer that sheds water, UV and red dust. It is far easier than a bottled coating, but the rules still apply: clean, cool, dry paint, and two towels per panel.
- 1
Prep the surface
Wash, iron-decon if the paint feels rough, then dry completely. Any old wax will reduce bonding.
- 2
Work in the shade
Cool panels, no wind blowing dust. Garage or carport is ideal.
- 3
Two sprays, one panel
Two light mists onto half a bonnet or one door. Too much product causes high spots, not more protection.
- 4
Spread, then buff
Towel one: spread evenly in straight lines. Towel two, immediately: buff to a clear, slick finish. Check at an angle under light for any smears.
Bay tip · Do glass too — rain sheets off and windscreens stay clearer at night.
- 5
Let it cure
Keep it dry for 12 hours and do not wash with soap for 5–7 days. After that, wash with a pH-neutral shampoo only.
Common mistakes
- Applying on a warm panel
- Using one towel until it is saturated — that is where streaks come from
- Washing with harsh chemicals afterwards
